Visitors from around the world once traveled
to Montpelier to pay homage to James Madison and to enjoy the
legendary hospitality of his beloved wife, Dolley.
The James Madison Center at JMU encourages you
to visit Montpelier, the home place of James Madison which is
a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. There
are guided and audio tours, educational displays throughout the
home, and many areas on the grounds to explore at your own pace.
Montpelier hosts many special events throughout
the year, including James Madison's Birthday, The Orange County
Fair, Constitution Day, the Montpelier Hunt Races and special
Holiday Tours in December.
A trip to Montpelier, via Route 33 East to Route
20, is only an hour and fifteen minute journey from the JMU campus.
