War of 1812 Bicentennial
As the nation begins its preparations to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, the James Madison Center is developing a series of lesson plans and materials for teachers and students.  The War of 1812 was the first declared war in American history and is often referred to as the “Second War for American Independence.”  Although militarily it was fought to a stalemate, the war was seen as a triumph of republicanism and help secure American rights won during the Revolution.
