Joan is the Executive Assistant for the JMU Learning Centers Administrative office. Her primary duties are to oversee the fiscal maintenance and budget development which supports all of the Learning Center programs, as well as to provide administrative support to the faculty, staff and director and currently working towards her BIS degree in Arts and Applied Sciences. In her spare time, Joan enjoys time with her granddaughter, genealogy and antiquing.

As the Associate Director, Alicia oversees the day to day operations of the Science and Math Learning Center and P.A.S.S. (Peer Assisted Study Sessions), a Supplemental Instruction program. She also tutors in the Science and Math Learning Center and teaches in the Department of Chemistry. She loves helping students reach their potential as they matriculate through JMU. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, reading and spending time with her family in Louisiana.

Jared Featherstone advises students and faculty about writing, and teaches courses in the School of Writing, Rhetoric & Technical Communication. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing and a BA in Journalism from the University of Maryland. In addition to developing his own creative work, his interests include online learning, Writing Across the Curriculum, service learning, and the relationship between teaching and tutoring.

Kristen is a JMU alumna and has returned to the Shenandoah Valley after receiving a MA in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Delaware. She is currently working on her doctorate at the California Institute of Integral Studies focusing on transformative learning upon reentry from study abroad. At ELLS, her goal is to provide access for every student to robust educational and personal experiences.

Paul is the Communication Center Coordinator and a faculty member in the School of Communication Studies. He brings a passion for communication, collaboration and advocacy to the Communication Center. He primarily teaches the basic communication course but also offers courses in advocacy studies. Paul’s research interests include rhetorical criticism, argumentation and higher education. Paige receiver her MA from the University of Texas at Austin where she taught for the Department of Rhetoric & Writing and tutored at the Undergraduate Writing Center. Paige joined JMU in 2010 and is developing tutoring services for students working on digital assignments, particularly online portfolios. Her research interests include new media pedagogy, peer tutoring, and the cats of reddit.
