Research Interest:

  • Dr. Mike Saunders is the Director of JMUís Human Performance Laboratory.† Dr. Saunders research over the past decade has focused on the role of various nutritional interventions to promote improved performance and recovery in endurance athletes.† This has included investigations of contemporary nutrient intake strategies during exercise (i.e. the effects of glucose+fructose ingestion, carbohydrate mouth-rinsing, carbohydrate+protein co-ingestion, caffeine), and nutrients consumed in the post-exercise period (i.e. carbohydrate, protein, antioxidants).
