The following are some activities that may be performed as part of the undergraduate internship:
- Attend BIP groups
- Report and process BIP group observations to supervisor
- Attend any other on-going groups, such groups for women or adolescents
- Make initial batterer Partner Contact by telephone
- Make follow-up Safety Checks with partner by telephone
- Participate in Court observation and monitoring, record dispositions and pertinent data, deliver reports to the clerk’s and CA’s offices; report and process observations
- Do data entry (2 places) on completed BIP cases for further research, reports, evaluation, etc.
- Attend weekly supervision meetings
- Attend local DV Task Force meetings and other professional meetings and conferences, as available
- Participate in on-going research or data collection, or create own research project or study (suggestions: pre/post tests, looking at data and implications, programming and running collected data, follow-up studies on outcome/recidivism rates)
- Observe BIP Intake interviews
- Develop a mentor relationship with an adolescent female client
- Assisting with any special projects
- Completing monthly reports on BIP members for the Court, if requested
As the student becomes more comfortable and proficient:
- Conduct Intake interviews under supervision or on own
- Assist with planning BIP groups, share in co-facilitating, or lead group on own, under supervision
- Plan and lead non-therapy groups (social skills, parenting education, etc.)
If time and interest allows, the intern may also work with the Choices Shelter in any of their support groups for women, adolescents, and children; or in any other needed capacity.
