Civic Learning as a Sanction
The civic learning program is designed to help students make a connection to campus and their personal mission and goals. Students work in an office on campus and/or meet with a mentor once a week to reflect on their experience at JMU.
Goals of the Civic Learning Program
- Students will increase their self knowledge and understand how their personal actions impact and influence the university community.
- Students will increase their level of connection/belonging to the university.
- Students will increase their level of civic engagement within the university community.
- Students will demonstrate an increased motivation to change behavior patterns that could leader to a judicial violation.
- Students will develop an understanding of JMU administrative and supportive office structure.
- Students will increase their self awareness and understanding of their value and personal role within the JMU community.
- Students will demonstrate increased self awareness, including a sense of purpose and its relation to future goals.
- Students will recognize involvement opportunities or services which may facilitate their ability to reach their identified goals.
- Students will increase involvement at JMU in order to reach their mission and goals.
