From: University Program Board & Black Student Alliance

On behalf of the Black Student Alliance and the University Program Board, we celebrate the third annual Hip-Hop Summit this Saturday, December 2, 2006, 2-4 pm in Transitions.

Dr. Hicks Harper will bring the key note address this Saturday. Dr. Hicks Harper will address the development of Hip-Hop, beginning simply as a form of expression to becoming a very
lucrative commodity in today's mainstream society. After
providing Hip-Hop's historical context, she will define its
very complex culture in both a broad and narrow sense. Dr.
Hicks Harper will focus on Hip-Hop's positive side while
acknowledging its negative realities. Relevant excerpts from
her new book entitled: Hip-Hop DevelopmentTM: Exploring Hip-
Hop as a Youth Engagement Tool for Successful Community
Building will be highlighted. "Hip-Hop Development™: From
Expression to Commodity" will break down techniques that
integrate Hip-Hop in ways that support not only U.S. economy
but also the lives of this country's most disadvantaged
children, youth, and families.

The speech will be followed by a panel discussion and signed copies of Dr. Harper's new book will be available for purchase.
