JMU's Masterpiece Season of performing and visual arts events is sponsoring a competition for the opportunity to sing duets from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" on stage with Franc D'Ambrosio Friday, Oct. 30, 2009.

D'Ambrosio has performed the role of The Phantom over 3,000 times, making him one of the world's longest running "Phantoms." He will conduct a master class with contest finalists for the roles of "Christine" and "Raoul" Oct. 29, the day before he performs "Franc D'Ambrosio's Broadway" at 7:30 p.m. in Wilson Hall Auditorium.

The vocal competition is open to males and females ages 15 through 22 years old. To compete, contestants must submit by Friday, Oct. 9, an official entry form and a CD recording of "All I Ask Of You" from "Phantom of the Opera" and one other song in a similar Broadway style. Call (540) 568-6358 to obtain an official entry form and complete competition details.

In addition to performing in the concert and rehearsing with D'Ambrosio, the two competition winners will each receive season tickets to the JMU Encore Series of shows.
