HARRISONBURG — On Sunday, Nov. 11, James Madison University and the City of Harrisonburg will pay tribute to the area's military veterans by hosting the annual downtown Veteran's Day parade followed by a special ceremony at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.
As planning begins for a new JMU baseball and softball complex, JMU President Linwood H. Rose will announce the university's commitment to enhancing the memorial at the new Veteran's Memorial Stadium.
"JMU takes pride in its role in protecting this community memorial," said Don Egle, JMU spokesperson. "We are committed to honoring local veterans and have worked with the City of Harrisonburg and local veterans' groups to ensure that this memorial is a fixture of the community for years to come."
Dr. Rose will be joined by U.S. Representative Bob Goodlatte, Harrisonburg Mayor Rodney Eagle and representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, AMVETS, Ladies Auxiliary and POW-MIA Riders.
Veteran's Day Activities
2 p.m. — Parade
The parade will travel on Main Street from the Harrisonburg Municipal Building to the Rockingham County Administration Center. Special additions include JMU's Marching Royal Dukes and ROTC.
2:45 p.m. — Shuttle Service Available
A shuttle service will carry all veterans and officials marching in the parade from the Rockingham County Administration Center to Veteran's Memorial Stadium. The shuttle will return to the Harrisonburg Municipal Building at 4 p.m.
3 p.m. — Ceremony at Veteran's Memorial Stadium
Public parking is available at Memorial Hall. Journalists planning on attending the stadium ceremony should contact JMU's Office of Public Affairs at 568-3621 for parking details.
