Parade of Champions: High-School Bands to Compete at JMU Oct. 20

HARRISONBURG — Thirty-four high-school bands from four states are expected to participate in the Parade of Champions, the annual marching band competition sponsored by the James Madison University Marching Royal Dukes.

DATE: Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007
TIME: Gates open at 8:30 a.m. for the all-day competition
LOCATION: Bridgeforth Stadium/Zane Showker Field

Bands from Harrisonburg High School and each of Rockingham County's high schools — Broadway, Spotswood and Turner Ashby — are among the bands from Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia competing.

Bands compete in classes A through AAAA, depending on band membership. Bands are judged on music execution, music general effect, marching execution, marching general effect, overall general effect, percussion and auxiliary units.

The Marching Royal Dukes will perform at approximately 3:45 and 9:30 p.m.

All-day admission is $7 for adults and $4 for senior citizens and students. For information, call the JMU Band Office at 540-568-6656.
