Self-guided walking tours to the historic buildings on and near the James Madison University Quadrangle are now available as part of the university's yearlong centennial celebration.
Tour booklets contain old and new photographs, along with informational material, on 11 of JMU's oldest buildings. The new Center for the Performing Arts, which will be built across Main Street from the Quadrangle, is also featured on the tour.
The tour begins at Maury Hall and Jackson Hall — JMU's two oldest buildings — and then goes down and around the Quadrangle. The tour then goes to Carrier Library and ends at Hillcrest.
Other buildings featured include Harrison Hall, Ashby Hall, Spotswood Hall, Sheldon Hall, Alumnae Hall, Wilson Hall and Keezell Hall.
The 20-page tour booklet includes a map of the Quadrangle that highlights the tour. The architect's original plans for the JMU Quadrangle are featured along with a current aerial view of campus.
Tour booklets are available in the Alumni Office in the Leeolou Alumni Center, the Admissions Office in Sonner Hall, the Parent Relations Office at 220 University Blvd. and the Centennial Office in Alumnae Hall.
