JMU's 2007-08 Budget Reduction Plan Remains as Stated
From: President's Office
October 2, 2007
As a result of the Governor's press conference on Monday, October 1st, you may have wondered about the potential of additional budget cuts to the university. I want to re-emphasize that the fundamental elements of our 2007-08 budget reduction plan will remain as previously stated:
- No position lay-off will occur;
- All salary increases planned for this fiscal year will be implemented; and
- Protecting the instructional program will be our primary objective.
In fact, today, the Secretary of Education informed us that the budget reduction for the university has been reduced in the 2007-08 year, from 7% to 6.25%. The result is a decrease in our total cut from $5,355,324 to $4,781,540 — translating into a difference of $573,784.
