HARRISONBURG — James Madison University's headcount enrollment for the fall is a record 15,769, a slight increase over last year's 15,612.

Of the total, 14,683 are undergraduates, 702 are graduate students and 384 are enrolled in continuing education classes.

There are 14,805 full-time students at JMU, including 14,268 full-time undergraduates.

The in-state/out-of-state ratio is 70/30, compared to last year's 71/29 split. Female-male ratio remained unchanged from last year at 60/40.

The percentage of minority students, around 10 percent, was about the same as last year. JMU's total enrollment includes 4.6 percent Asian Americans, 3.3 percent African Americans and 1.9 percent Hispanics.

There were 3,388 in this year's freshman class, up about 100 from last year. The increase was due to a rise in the percentage of students who accepted JMU's offer of admission. Some 15,500 applied for spots in the freshman class. Including transfer applications, almost 18,000 applied to JMU this year.
