JMU STAFFERS WIN STATEWIDE PUBLIC RELATIONS AWARDS | |

From: Media Relations Two members of the media relations staff at James Madison University have won Virginia Public Relations Awards.The awards, which recognize excellence in the public relations profession, were presented by the Richmond Public Relations Association (RPRA) chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Cindy Mooy, news bureau manager, won a Certificate of Merit for two faculty-staff publications she edits, JMUniverse and Extra!. JMUniverse is a monthly tabloid newspaper and Extra! is a weekly supplemental newsletter, written by Janet Smith, an information officer. The JMU tabloid had been cited earlier in both regional and national competition sponsored by the national college public relations organization, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. Charles Culbertson, an information officer, won a Certificate of Merit for feature writing for an article titled "Why’d Johnny go marchin’ off to Civil War?" that appeared in the June, 1999, issue of JMUniverse. The article dealt with the annual JMU Civil War Institute. The awards were presented at a recent banquet of the RPRA. Awards were presented in about 20 different categories with only one Medallion Award and one Certificate of Merit presented in each category. |
