From: Media Relations October 16, 2000Macbett by Eugéne Ionesco Event Dates: November 7-11, 2000 HARRISONBURG James Madison University's School of Theatre and Dance presents Eugéne Ionesco's "Macbett" Nov. 7-11 at 8 p.m. at the Latimer-Shaeffer Theatre, Duke Hall. In the play, the prophecies of witches come true and Macbett becomes king but with strings attached. Conspiracies breed conspiracies until paranoia abounds in this satire of "The Scottish Play." Ionesco is considered the father of the "theater of the absurd." His career as a playwright spans much of the 20th century and his plays are an important part of what defines 20th century theatrical style. In "Macbett" he uses the absurdities inherent in war to explore the nature of political violence and dictatorship. "Macbett" is directed by Tom King. The play features Brandon Durflinger in the title role with David McInturff as Duncan and Lara Sheets playing the triple roles of Lady Duncan, Lady Macbett and the First Witch. The play is intended for mature audiences. Tickets to "Macbett" are $8 for the general public and $6 for senior citizens, children and JAC cardholders. Call (540)568-7000 for tickets. # # #Writer/Media Contact:Leslie Sandefur, Publicist, JMU School of Theatre and Dance MSC 5601, Harrisonburg, VA 22807 Phone: 540-568-7836 Fax: 540-568-7858 E-Mail: theatredance@jmu.edu |
