All four gate locations included in the new campus gate system will be activated and in full operation beginning Monday, Aug. 15. Traffic will be restricted through the Bluestone section of campus from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.
Vehicles with special permission, such as city buses, emergency vehicles, JMU service vehicles and vehicles of drivers who have received access to handicapped parking, will be able to travel through the gated portion of campus when the gates are in operation.
Accommodations will be made for student move-in days.
In addition to the traffic pattern changes, the crosswalk pattern at two intersections near campus will be changing Monday. Pedestrians crossing at the intersections of South Main Street and Bluestone Drive/Warsaw Avenue and at South Mason Street and Cantrell Avenue will no longer be able to cross diagonally and should be aware that vehicles will have green lights while pedestrians are crossing. Pedestrians should wait for the walk symbol before crossing and should stay within the crosswalk. Pedestrians wanting to cross South Main Street are encouraged to use the tunnel connecting the Quad and the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts.
