Join the JMU Marimba Orchestra in this uplifting concert that will feature an exciting world premiere of a new work written by Jamieson Carr for the opening of the Forbes Center. The program also includes Lex by acclaimed composer Michael Daugherty, Featuring the JMU Marimba Orchestra with guest soloists Dr. Michael Overman (xylophone), Dr. Lori Piitz (piano), Dr. Wanchi Huang (violin) and the JMU Steel Drum Band whose inspiration was Superman's greatest adversary, Lex Luthor. Lex features acclaimed violin soloist Dr. Wanchi Huang. Girlfriends Medley by Bob Becker consists of four favorite tunes from the 30s and 40s played by xylophone soloist Dr. Michael Overman. Stars and Stripes by John P. Sousa featuring authentic military rope drums, and Bolero by E. Rosales/Musser round out the program. David Gillingham's Concerto for Piano and Percussion Orchestra will feature piano soloist Dr. Lori Piitz, whose career has included performances at Steinway Hall in New York City, the Festival of the Sound in Canada and other national and international venues. The ever-popular JMU Steel Drum Band will play two selections for the concert.
Mailing Tickets/Will Call —Tickets that are ordered more than two weeks in advance of a performance will be mailed to the address on file. Ticket orders received less than two weeks prior to a performance will be held for pick-up at the Will Call window.
