One of Mozart's most beloved works, The Marriage of Figaro is often described as the most perfect comic opera ever written. This delightful masterpiece based on Beaumarchais' stage play, conducted by Marc Elyseé with musical direction by Robert McCashin, is brimming with sexual intrigue, scandalous fun, deceit, mistaken identity and a richly varied score. Class conflict, lust and old-age traditions threaten to destroy the lives of Count and Countess Almaviva and their servants, Figaro and his bride-to-be, Susanna. Fortunately, Count Almaviva's plot to steal Susanna's affections is foiled, as sanity, reconciliation, love and laughter are restored in this timeless and exquisite opera celebrated by audiences for generations. The JMU Opera Theater was recently invited to perform at the prestigious National Arts Club in New York.
