The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts and Alpha Psi Omega are working together to provide tours to prospective students, families and community members. Upcoming tours are planned for the following dates:
Alpha Psi Omega strives to create social, educational and community service opportunities for theatre students. APO Member Mike Swan contacted Executive Director of the Forbes Center, Regan Byrne, about giving tours as a way to fulfill the group's service project requirement. According to Swan, the students in APO "all have a love for JMU theatre." Those students have been able to demonstrate that love this past fall during tours for CHOICES, and on Open House and audition days.
Regan Byrne, Executive Director at the Forbes Center, conducted the tour training sessions and says the tour guides are "really enthusiastic--and parents and community members love asking the students questions." She adds that this service project is "a wonderful way for JMU students to share their college experience with others interested in the field and with the community at large."
In addition to touring the three theatre and dance spaces, APO students show visitors the two music venues as well as the costume and scene shop. The tours provide visitors with a unique opportunity to interact with current students and hear what it is like to be involved in the performing arts at JMU.
