Studio Theatre

In a vegetable store turned home in the 1960's, a family struggles to survive everyday life. Heredity and fear have landed many of the Hunsdorfer family on the brink of the sanatorium. Beatrice and her two daughters form a dysfunctional family where there are no clear lines of structure, which leads to a constant battle of control. Beatrice and Ruth frequently cross the line of depressed and disturbed while trying to maintain a family life. Tillie strives to be a good student as her fascination in science grows. So far, Tillie has made it through life virtually scott-free, but will she be able to continue on this path (despite having a family that brings her down) to find the beauty and hope in life? This show is fully staged and student-directed.

*The Studio Theatre
The JMU School of Theatre and Dance provides students with pre-professional training opportunities as directors, playwrights, designers, actors, technicians and managers. In the Studio Theatre at the Forbes Center, student-produced works comprise the Experimental Theatre Series. In contrast to the faculty and guest-directed shows in the Forbes Center's larger Mainstage Theatre, the Studio Theatre offers students a flexible, state-of-the-art theatre "laboratory" in which to develop their own work. In these student- directed, designed, and acted performances, students explore the possibilities of staging and, occasionally, non-traditional approaches and scripts. Audiences are invited to come and experience the new and often thought-provoking work of tomorrow's theatre professionals.

Ticket prices: $6 General Admission. Advance tickets can be purchased online, by phone or in person at the box office (Mon.–Fri., 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and 1½ hours prior to performance). Major credits cards, cash, checks and JACards accepted.

Mailing Tickets/Will Call — Tickets that are ordered more than two weeks in advance of a performance will be mailed to the address on file. Ticket orders received less than two weeks prior to a performance will be held for pickup at the Will Call window.
