The Monticello Trio

JMU faculty members Wanchi Huang (violin), Amadi Azikiwe (viola) and Carl Donakowski (cello) perform the music of Ernst von Dohnanyi and W.A. Mozart.

Wanchi Huang has given highly acclaimed recitals and collaborated with internationally renowned performing artists in chamber music performances throughout the United States, including at the Kennedy Center. Her CD of the Eugène Ysaÿe Six Solo Sonatas is being released under the Centaur Label in 2012. Huang earned a Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music, a Master of Music from The Julliard School, and a Doctor of Music from Indiana University. She currently resides in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she teaches a full violin studio at the James Madison University School of Music.

Amadi Azikiwe, who holds a bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory and a master’s degree from Indiana University, has been heard in recitals in major cities throughout the U.S., the Caribbean, Asia and South America. He is currently the Music Director of the Harlem Symphony Orchestra. Among Mr. Azikiwe’s awards are those from Concert Artists Guild, the North Carolina Symphony, the National Society of Arts and Letters, and the Epstein Young Artists Award from the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, with whom he still maintains a strong artistic and mentoring association.

Carl Donakowski was a prize winner in the 1989 Mendelssohn Competition in Berlin. His recital performances have aired on WQRS Detroit, WQXR New York and Sudwestfunk Radio Baden–Baden. As a member of the West End Chamber Ensemble, he participated in the National Endowment for the Arts/Chamber Music America Rural Residency Chamber Music Initiative. His major teachers were Timothy Eddy, Janos Starker, Gary Hoffman and Christoph Henkel.

Ticket prices: $8–$10. Cash, checks, major credit cards, JACards accepted.
JMU student tickets: Advance tickets — $5 discount tickets in person at the Forbes Center Box Office only with ID. Student tickets are not available online. One ticket per ID. Cash only 1½ hours prior to performance.

Mailing Tickets/Will Call — Tickets that are ordered more than two weeks in advance of a performance will be mailed to the address on file. Ticket orders received less than two weeks prior to a performance will be held for pick-up at the Will Call window.
