The 11th Annual JMU ACDA ChoralFest
Presented in partnership with the Virginia Choral Directors Association

Saturday, September 24 @ 4 p.m., Concert Hall

This fall choral celebration is the culmination of a two-day festival where high school student choirs work side-by-side with members of the award–winning JMU Chorale. James Madison University’s new Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Jo–Anne van der Vat–Chromy, serves as director for this concert in association with JMU’s ACDA student chapter.

Jo-Anne van der Vat-Chromy joined the JMU faculty in 2010. She hails most recently from Tallahassee, Florida, where she completed her doctoral studies in choral music education/choral conducting at Florida State University. While in Tallahassee, Dr. van der Vat–Chromy also served as Vocal Music Director at Tallahassee Community College.

After receiving a Belgian–American Education Foundation Scholarship to study horn in Belgium, Jo–Anne remained in Europe, building an extensive teaching career within the European International Schools System. She was most recently the Vocal Music Director at the American School of The Hague, The Netherlands and founder/music director of Het Davidkoor, a thirty–voice Dutch women’s choir.

American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nonprofit music–education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music's position in American society. ACDA membership consists of choral directors who represent more than one million singers across the United States. ACDA members teach choral music in public and private schools — kindergarten through senior high school — and at the college and university levels. They conduct a variety of choral groups, including boy choirs, children’s choirs, men's and women's choruses, junior and senior high school choirs, college and university choruses, ethnic choirs, vocal-jazz ensembles and symphony choruses. They also conduct choirs in their communities and in their places of worship. ACDA is divided into seven geographic regions/divisions www.acda.org/chapters, as well as fifty state chapters www.acda.org/chapters, each with its own conferences, newsletters, festivals, clinics and workshops.
