Awake and Sing!
A Studio Theatre Production
By Clifford Odets

September 18–21, 2012 Tuesday–Friday @ 8 p.m.

September 22, 2012 Saturday @ 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Studio Theatre

Awake and Sing! tells the story of a Jewish-American family living in a small apartment in the Bronx in 1932. Though they all live together, their generational values are different, making real communication almost impossible. The two youngest especially struggle with the fine line between supporting the family’s needs and losing any hope for freedom. How will the Berger family continue to live together when money, age and dreams keep them apart? Mature audiences only.

The Studio Theatre

The JMU School of Theatre and Dance provides students with pre-professional training opportunities as directors, playwrights, designers, actors, technicians and managers. In the Studio Theatre at the Forbes Center, student-produced works comprise the Experimental Theatre Series. In contrast to the faculty and guest-directed shows in the Forbes Center’s larger Mainstage Theatre, the Studio Theatre offers students a flexible, state-of-the-art theatre “laboratory” in which to develop their own work. In these student directed, designed, and acted performances, students explore the possibilities of staging and, occasionally, non-traditional approaches and scripts. Audiences are invited to come and experience the new and often thought-provoking work of tomorrow’s theatre professionals.

Ticket prices: $6. General Admission. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone or in person at the Forbes Center Box Office (Mon.–Fri., 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. or 1½ hours prior to performance) or at the Studio Theatre Box Office 1 hour prior to each performance. Cash, checks, major credit cards, JACards are accepted.
JMU student tickets: $11 in person at box office only with student ID. One ticket per ID. Student tickets not available online.

Mailing Tickets/Will Call — Tickets that are ordered more than two weeks in advance of a performance will be mailed to the address on file. Ticket orders received less than two weeks prior to a performance will be held for pick-up at the Will Call window.
