Rogério Souza is an acclaimed Brazilian guitarist and composer from Rio de Janeiro. A master of both the 6–string and 7–string guitars, he is a founding member of the innovative Brazilian instrumental group, No em Pingo D’Água (a knot in a drop of water), with whom he has released 6 recordings as well as being anthologized on 3 others. He released his first solo CD, Violão Brasileiro, in 2008 and has recorded two CDs in collaboration with his brother, the iconic Brazilian mandolinist Ronaldo de Bandolim, Epoca de Choro (2007) and Retrato Brasileiro: Musicas de Baden Powell (2009).

Rogerio has performed and recorded with some of the greatest artists in Brazilian popular music, including: Paulinho da Viola, João Bosco, Ney Matogrosso, Ivan Lins, Elizeth Cardoso, Dona Ivone Lara, Elsa Soares, Zélia Duncan, Leila Pinheiro, Baden Powell, Paulo Moura, Guinga, and Epoca de Ouro. He has toured throughout Latin America, the U.S., Europe, and Asia, appearing at the Festival Villa Lobos (Brazil), Monthautre Jazz Festival (Denmark), Stadgarden Festival (Cologne), the 3rd Festival of Ibero-American Culture (Chile), the Festival de Inverno (Portugal), and at SOB’s, the Blue Bird, and Zanzibar (NY & New Jersey)

He has worked as an arranger and producer for recording and touring ensembles, including recently directing singer Ney Matogrosso’s show, Batuque, on a two year tour throughout Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Portugal.

As a composer, Rogerio won awards for best composition and arrangement at the 1997 Rio de Janeiro Festival of Choro. He is the author of a method book on choro guitar and has co-authored a three volume collection of choro transcriptions, Songbook Choro, volumes 1–3 (Lumiar Editora 2007, 2011).

Ticket prices: $8–$10 Advance tickets can be purchased online, by phone or in person at the box office (Mon.–Fri., 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and 1½ hours prior to performance). Major credits cards, cash, checks and JACards accepted.
JMU student tickets: $4 in person at the box office only with student ID. One ticket per ID. Student tickets are not available online. Cash only 1½ hours prior to performance.

Mailing Tickets/Will Call — Tickets that are ordered more than two weeks in advance of a performance will be mailed to the address on file. Ticket orders received less than two weeks prior to a performance will be held for pickup at the Will Call window.
