Monday, April 16 @ 8 p.m., Concert Hall

This concert features solo performances by guest artist Andy Harnsberger, who has been praised by Percussive Notes Journal as “A Master of Musical Nuance.” The JMU Percussion Ensemble, will also perform Harnsberger’s newest work, “Palmetto Moon,” “Apparitions of Malacandra” by JMU alumnus, Josh Smith, and “Bonham” by Pulitzer prize-winning composer, Christopher Rouse. The work is an an ode to rock drumming and Led Zepplin’s legendary drummer, the late John Bonham.

The JMU Percussion Ensemble, directed by William C. Rice and Dr. Michael Overman, consists of nearly 30 students and has performed throughout the East Coast, including concerts at the Virginia Music Educators Association Convention and Virginia Days of Percussion. They were selected to perform a feature concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Philadelphia.
