JMU Jazz Band

The JMU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Band were founded in 1971; membership in each ensemble is determined via audition each semester. JMU jazz groups have performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Terrace Theater, Montreux International Jazz and Blues Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival and Virginia Music Educator’s Association annual convention.

The JMU Jazz Ensemble has been featured with the U.S. Navy Commodores Jazz Ensemble and U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note Jazz Ensemble and at the East Coast Jazz Festival in Rockville, Md. The ensemble has performed with jazz artists Dick Oatts, John Clayton, Justic DiCioccio, Paul McKee, Dave Glenn, Joseph Eckert, Charles Bubeck, Clay Jenkins, Antonio Garcia, John D’Earth, Chris Merz, Dana Landry and Jim White.

Ticket prices: $8–$10. Cash, checks, major credit cards, JACards accepted.
JMU student tickets: Advance tickets — $5 discount tickets in person at the Forbes Center Box Office only with ID. One ticket per ID. Student tickets are not available online. Cash only 1½ hours prior to performance.

Mailing Tickets/Will Call — Tickets that are ordered more than two weeks in advance of a performance will be mailed to the address on file. Ticket orders received less than two weeks prior to a performance will be held for pick-up at the Will Call window.
