They’re Playing Our Song
A Studio Theatre Production
Book by Neil Simon
Music by Marvin Hamlisch
Lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager

March 19–22, 2013 Tuesday–Friday @ 8 p.m.

March 23, 2013 Saturday @ 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Studio Theatre

This musical disco dances its way through the relationship of neurotic composer, Vernon, and wacky lyricist, Sonia, and is modeled after the real–life relationship between Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager. In a clear case of “opposites attract,” the two become not only songwriting partners, but also fall in love. Until they can figure out how to work together, they find themselves in some hilarious situations. Filled with catchy up–tempo disco songs and soulful, reflective ballads, the score takes you on just as crazy a ride as Sonia and Vernon! Contains adult language and themes.

They’re Playing Our Song (Neil Simon/Marvin Hamlisch) is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

The Studio Theatre
The JMU School of Theatre and Dance provides students with pre–professional training opportunities as directors, playwrights, designers, actors, technicians and managers. In the Studio Theatre at the Forbes Center, student–produced works comprise the Experimental Theatre Series. In contrast to the faculty and guest–directed shows in the Forbes Center’s larger Mainstage Theatre, the Studio Theatre offers students a flexible, state–of–the–art theatre “laboratory” in which to develop their own work. In these student directed, designed, and acted performances, students explore the possibilities of staging and, occasionally, non–traditional approaches and scripts. Audiences are invited to come and experience the new and often thought–provoking work of tomorrow’s theatre professionals.

Ticket prices: $8. General Admission. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone or in person at the Forbes Center Box Office (Mon.–Fri., 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and 1½ hours prior to performance) or at the Studio Theatre Box Office 1 hour prior to each performance. Cash, checks, major credit cards, JACards accepted.

Mailing Tickets/Will Call — Tickets that are ordered more than two weeks in advance of a performance will be mailed to the address on file. Ticket orders received less than two weeks prior to a performance will be held for pick-up at the Will Call window.
