February 22–27, 2013 ♦ Friday–Wednesday @ 8 p.m. ♦ Studio Theatre
Gruesome Playground Injuries charts the intersection of two lives, using scars, wounds, and calamity as the mile markers to explore why people hurt themselves to gain another’s love. Specifically, over the course of 30 years, the lives of Kayleen and Doug intersect at the most bizarre intervals, leading the two childhood friends to compare the scars and physical calamities that keep drawing them together. Contains adult language, sexual content, and partial nudity.
Gruesome Playground Injuries is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
The Studio Theatre
The JMU School of Theatre and Dance provides students with pre–professional training opportunities as directors, playwrights, designers, actors, technicians and managers. In the Studio Theatre at the Forbes Center, student–produced works comprise the Experimental Theatre Series. In contrast to the faculty and guest–directed shows in the Forbes Center’s larger Mainstage Theatre, the Studio Theatre offers students a flexible, state–of–the–art theatre “laboratory” in which to develop their own work. In these student directed, designed, and acted performances, students explore the possibilities of staging and, occasionally, non–traditional approaches and scripts. Audiences are invited to come and experience the new and often thought–provoking work of tomorrow’s theatre professionals.
Ticket prices: $6. General Admission. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone or in person at the Forbes Center Box Office (Mon.–Fri., 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and 1½ hours prior to performance) or at the Studio Theatre Box Office 1 hour prior to each performance. Cash, checks, major credit cards, JACards accepted.
Mailing Tickets/Will Call — Tickets that are ordered more than two weeks in advance of a performance will be mailed to the address on file. Ticket orders received less than two weeks prior to a performance will be held for pick-up at the Will Call window.
