Bunce Island is one of the “slave castles” on the coast of West Africa where European merchants purchased African captives, imprisoned them, and put them aboard the slave ships that took them to America.
The exhibit shows how the Bunce Island slave castle operated and what the African prisoners endured there.
The exhibit will travel to colleges and museums around the US. It will also be on display in the US Congress and in the Sierra Leone National Museum in West Africa. For more information on the exhibit, see: http://www.bunce-island.org
IVS is open daily, Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 3 pm.
