Jenna

Ciao! Mi chiamo Jenna, and I am a freshman Art History major and I will soon be declaring a double major with Italian. I took Italian throughout high school and I always felt a connection to the language. My family on my dad’s side is from Napoli, so I always wanted to connect with my family members who still live there. I cannot wait to study abroad in Fierenze during my junior year and be able to study the culture I have up until now only studied in class. I met Rachel and Ali the first day of crew this semester, and Caroline in class and ever since then we have always seemed to work together in small groups and go to the Italian events together.  I am glad to have met such good friends that I will continue to study Italian with over the next few years. Sono felice ho conosciuto mie amiche nuove.

Ali

Ciao! Mi chiamo Ali. I am a sophomore studying social work with a minor in family studies and a minor in modern European studies. I decided to study Italian when I knew that I would be participating in the JMU semester in Florence program and have continued with the language in order to get the modern European studies minor. I have known Rachel since freshman year and just met Caroline and Jenna this semester, but I feel like we’ve been friends for longer. I look forward to seeing them in class and we always work together for partner/group assignments.

Caroline

Ciao! Io sono Caroline. I am a statistics major with a minor in economics. I am graduating in December; I’m going to miss having Italian classes. I first took Italian because I needed a few more credits for a semester. I continued taking it because I loved the language and our class so much. I met Rachel in Italian 101 and we always worked in pairs for class. We made sure we were in the same class again, and we work together for almost everything. I met Ali and Jenna basically through Rachel and we bonded a lot in class, and we are such good friends now. It’s crazy how quickly you can become friends by only having one class together. Amo voi ragazze!

Rachel

Ciao! Mi chiamo Rachel. I am a sophomore Modern Foreign Language major, with a concentration in Italian with a minor in art history and in modern European studies. I love everything Italian: language, culture, food, etc. And I have always loved learning new languages, so I decided I want to teach. I have met so many great people in Italian classes at JMU. Caroline and I have taken Italian together for 3 semesters and I have known Ali since freshman year, and just met Jenna this year. We have a lot of fun both in class and outside of class. We help each other learn and work together on group assignments. I am so glad to have great friends to study with. I will be participating in the JMU semester in Florence program this upcoming spring and cannot wait!
