International Student Move-In Procedures:

Once in Harrisonburg:
  • If you will be living on campus and should arrive before January 8, you will need to arrange for your own hotel accommodations. We recommend that you stay at the Best Western Hotel. By staying at the Best Western Hotel you will benefit from a special rate of $59 + tax per room per night (make sure to inform the hotel that you are JMU students) and we will provide transportation assistance from the hotel to your assigned residence hall on Sunday, January 8 (at 9am, wait in the Lobby Area with your bags ready to go).
  • You can reach Thomas Lavenir - International Student and Scholar Services staff member on his office phone (540) 568-7314 as they will be transfered to his cell phone. When on campus, simply dial: 87314 from the emergency phone (in a box) located outside the residence hall or from your room telephone.
  • If you do land in Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport (SHD) and require transportation assistance, please make sure to send your itinerary and flight information to Thomas Lavenir at least 10 business days prior to your arrival!
  • Students faculty and staff rely on the JMU bus system to go from one end of the campus to the other, or to get around Harrisonburg and to their off campus apt. Click here to find out where and when to find the right bus. Considering that when you arrive in Harrisonburg, classes will not be in session on Sunday (or earlier that week) the bus routes and schedule may not be convenient to get around, for that reason you may consider taking a taxi. Here is a list of local taxi companies:
      | ABC Cab (540) 564-1214 | Green Shuttle (540) 810-2074
      | Royal Cab (540) 438-7777 | Yellow Cab (540) 434-2515
