Plan your trip wisely and accordingly:

On Sunday August 18, in order to ensure that you move-in early on campus (for students who will be living on-campus) and that we can assist students with transportation assistance from the Dulles International Airport (IAD) to JMU, please complete the following Arrival/ Reservation Form

The International Student and Scholar Services office will provide a special JMU bus to the DoubleTree by Hilton Sterling - Dulles Airport. to JMU on Sunday, August 18. This is a special offer that is limited to those attending Transitions. Please note that no transportation will be provided by JMU or our office to transport accompanying passengers back to the airport. You will be able to be picked up at two different times on Sunday, August 18:

  • 10:00 (or 10am) [Purple] bus- The [purple] JMU Bus will be picking up JMU students from the DoubleTree by Hilton Sterling - Dulles Airport. A special rate of $75 per night (breakfast included) has been arranged for anyone staying over in this hotel. Follow this link to make sure to that you receive the Study Group rate. The DoubleTree By Hilton Sterling hotel provides a free courtesy bus to and from the airport!  to and from the airport.
  • 18:00 (or 6pm) [Gold] bus- The [gold] JMU Bus will be picking up JMU students from the airport in a specific designated location where a JMU student will lead you to the bus pick-up area.
If you should need to arrive earlier in Harrisonburg, you should consider taking a connecting flight from Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Staunton/ Shenandoah Regional Airport [SHD] as there is no convenient and cheap way to get from IAD to Harrisonburg at this time of the year. Once in Harrisonburg, we recommend that you stay at the Best Western hotel due to its convenient location and the special JMU rate of $60 [make sure to ask for or to mention: JMU student rate]. 

Make sure to complete this online Arrival Form no later than August 1st.

Keep in mind that you should add an extra hour after your expected arrival time (considering that going through customs and immigration will take a considerable amount of time). 

I will NOT be using JMU transportation. I will make my own arrangements and will arrive in Harrisonburg, Virginia at JMU on Sunday, August 18th before 9:00 p.m.
I request to ride the 10:00 (or 10 am) [purple] JMU bus which will pick me up from the DoubleTree Sterling Hotel in the lobby area at 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 18th.
I request to ride the 18:00 (or 6pm) [gold] JMU bus which will pick me up from the airport at 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 18th.
