10/17/2011 - Call for Applications for Director for Semester in Oxford, Cambridge and St. Andrews
The Office of International Programs is seeking a Director for the Semester in Oxford, Cambridge and St. Andrews program. This position is a six-year position, to be reviewed annually, with possible extension up to two years. The Director oversees semesters abroad during the fall, spring, or any combination thereof. The Director of the Semester in Oxford, Cambridge and St. Andrews is responsible for organization in the following areas:
Student advising
-
recruit and advise students at special events and during individual meetings
-
meet with students individually to complete applications
-
make recommendations for admission
-
conduct pre-departure orientation meetings to prepare students for the semester abroad
-
communicate with OIP any special circumstances and changes to program organization
-
organize and/or conduct on-site orientation
-
respond promptly to concerns, issues, and emergencies and notify OIP of problems and resolutions
-
provide students with an updated Oxford, Cambridge, St. Andrews Handbook
-
communicate openly and professionally with students and their families regarding any concerns
-
assess and monitor immigration regulations
Curriculum administration
-
establish and regularly review the course offerings to insure the program's academic integrity
-
evaluate the course work at the end of each semester
-
coordinate course selection for the students
-
collect grades, course papers and exams, and program evaluations
-
present summary of evaluations to the international faculty
-
in coordination with the Executive Director, update and refine curriculum as needed to meet changing student interest and need
-
assist in creating and administrating assessment tools
Financial management
-
review and apply scholarship monies as appropriate
Institutional relations
-
establish and maintain good relations with the University of St Andrews, Cambridge and Oxford University and any other institutions as appropriate
-
make on-site visits
-
communicate with JMU department heads and deans about the St Andrews, Cambridge, and Oxford curriculum
-
provide updated costs so students can apply for financial aid
-
support international faculty and administrators on on-site and on-campus visits
Other
Semester Program Directors are compensated with a salary paid over the course of a calendar year.
Interested faculty should send a cover letter, curriculum vita, and two references to the Office of International Programs, MSC 5731. Preference will be given to faculty members who have served previously as an FMIR or have equivalent experiences abroad. Applications are due Thursday, December 1. The selection process will be completed early in the Spring 2012 semester. The successful candidate will begin working with the current Director during the Spring semester. Once appointed, the successful candidate will assume the Director role after the Summer 2012 semester.
