Courses

In order to participate in Madison International, ALL first-year students must be enrolled/enroll in all of the courses noted below.  Keep in mind that all of these classes will help you fulfill some of your Gen. Ed. requirements. If for some reason you must drop a course, you will be required to drop them all meaning that you will no longer be part of Madison International:

Fall Semester

These courses, which have been specially-designed to meet the curricular goals of Cluster One and the co-curricular goals of the Madison International program, fulfill part of the Cluster One General Education requirement.

  • GWRIT 103, course #12015, section 51, TuTh 9:30-10:45 - TBA

OR

  • GWRIT 103, course #13290 section 75, TuTh 8:00-9:15 - TBA

AND

  • GCOM 123, course #11922 section 40, MWF 10:10-11:00 - This general-education requirement course will introduce students to some basic theories in human communication and will provide a format in which students will be able to apply the concepts learned in class through discussions, critical thinking assignments, speeches, debate, the study of decision-making process, as well as evaluation, and reports.  Emphasis will be put on “examining the role of the self-concept, perception, culture, verbal and nonverbal dimensions in the communication process, using power and managing conflict, applying critical listening, practicing audience analysis, and constructing informative and persuasive group presentations.”

Spring Semester

Designed to connect to the first semester courses and build on material therein, this course will fulfill part of the Cluster Four General Education Requirement.  More information on this course will be provided at a later date.

Other options uring either semester

You are also eligible (but not required) to take:

  • GEIC 202, Making Sense of Beliefs and Values: A Guided Tour for Global Citizens (#TBD), which will fulfill the sociocultural dimension of Cluster 5. It will help students to connect further their experience living in Madison International to specific global issues identified and explored by IBAVI faculty

  • HRD 145 (FALL #14055; SPRING #TBD), Leadership in a Diverse World, as an elective. Leadership in a Diverse World, integrates the residence hall program with the academic study of the demands of leadership.
