Program Activities

The community aspect of the MI Learning Community not only relies on the shared passion and interest for languages, cultures, and countries of its participants, but also on shared experiences and on the principle that everyone in the community has a voice. For these reasons anyone can opt to serve on the MI Student Community Board to positively impact the MI and larger JMU communities by implementing programs and events as well as shaping the focus of MI through the following positions:

• President- Responsibilities: (a) Oversee the MI Student Community Board including organizing and running the meeting;. (b) Sit on the MI Steering Committee Meeting.
• PR/Communication Coordinator- Responsibilities: (a) Ensure the dissemination of information (events, minutes, photos) via Facebook, e-mail etc… to the MI community; (b) Help with the recruitment of MI participants (CHOICES fair, Web application form, etc…)
• Event Coordinator- Responsibilities: (a) Assess the needs of the community to determine the kind of events that ought to take place; (b) implement and organize these events
• Academic Coordinator- Responsibilities: (a) Assess the needs of the community in regards to: (1) academic experience and (2) mentoring program experience; (b) present your finding with MI instructors and see and how changes may be implemented
• Service Learning Coordinator- (a) Assist participants in finding service learning opportunities and the recruitment of an ASB Trip Leader; (b) help with the coordination of the mentoring program.
