Health Insurance

If you are a student, the cost of the student health insurance coverage which JMU authorizes will be added to your tuition and fees bill. Once paid, you will automatically be added to the CISI insurance policy. You should come to International Student and Scholar Services to obtain your health insurance card and a copy of the policy.

If you currently hold an insurance policy which will cover you for your entire stay at JMU at the same levels that the school's policy will cover, you may be exempt from the requirement of paying for the policy supported by JMU. If you wish to apply for a waiver, you must complete an Insurance Waiver Form and return it to ISSS along with copies of your current policy with English translations and verification of sufficient benefits.

When you present your health insurance card, you will only have to pay a "co-pay" of $25 and the rest of our bill will be sent directly to your health insurance. If you do not have your health insurance card with you when you go to the emergency room or when you visit a doctor outside of the JMU Student Health Center you will be asked to pay your bill in its entirety, and you will then need to send the invoice along with the CISI claim form.
