2016 International Student Career Day

Parking: JMU attendees should park in their normal zones. Off-campus guests should park in the D3 parking lot

1:30pm Welcome and Overview

1:45pm Optional Practical Training Session: Learn how to work on your student visa after graduation by applying for Optional Practical Training (OPT). Session objectives: 

  • Identify when to apply for OPT
  • Be able to summarize the OPT application process

2:55pm Tips for Writing Effective Resumes: Create an effective US style resume. Session objectives:

  • Describe the differences between a US resume and non-US resume
  • Identify resume writing resources 

Presenter: Venus Miller, Career & Academic Planning  

3:10pm The Job Search Deal: Understand how to use the many resources JMU has to offer to search for jobs. Session objectives:

  • Learn how to identify and use job and internship search resources
  • Predict common US interview questions and etiquette

4:30pm The Work Visa Session: Learn about the process for obtaining a work visa in the US. Session objectives:

  • Be able to summarize the typical process for obtaining a work visa after graduation
  • Identify multiple work visa options

6:00pm JMU International Alumni Panel: Listen to the experiences of international alumni who are living and working in the US and ask your own questions.
