The oIP is very aware of the fact that we are not the only department on campus that interacts with international students, scholars, and faculty. As our international numbers grow the entire campus community is greatly enriched by the cultural diversity, varying world views and global insights brought by all international guests. Our domestic students gain a greater perspective of the world when they are able to take government classes with students and professors who come from countries with vastly different political systems. Likewise, education is enhanced by non-classroom interactions between people of different backgrounds. However, we are cognizant of the fact that this increasing diversity also brings unique challenges to academic departments as international students and scholars are integrated into a system that has previously been largely homogenous. The pages on this web site will address a few areas of interest for departments as our international population continues to increase.
