Immigration Employment Regulations
The U.S. Government carefully monitors employment of individuals
in the country on a temporary basis. Employers are required to verify
the employment eligibility status of every employee immediately
after hire, and to keep all records current and complete. Failure
to abide by these regulations could result in heavy fines to JMU
($110 - $1100 per employee) and might eventually
lead to criminal charges being brought against JMU personnel. Obviously,
JMU is committed to following all appropriate procedures and ensuring
compliance with federal law. At the same time, the university desires
to hire the best possible candidates for all positions and to enhance
the diversity of faculty and staff.
