Undergraduate Admissions

James Madison has 64 majors and is authorized to confer the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.Ed.), Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.), Bachelor of Music (B.M.), Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.), and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.).

Deadlines

You are encouraged to apply as early as possible, as the application process is very competitive. In order to be considered for acceptance, you must submit a completed application prior to the deadlines listed below.

  • Fall term applications: February 1
  • Summer term applications: November 1
  • Spring term applications: September 1

Requirements

General criteria for admission to the undergraduate program:

  • Successful completion of secondary education (graduation from high school or the equivalent)
  • Superior class rank and personal recommendation
  • Academic background that shows a strong program of study
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores or completion of English Transition Program for applicants from non-English speaking countries
  • Ability to finance education
  • Scholastic Aptitude Tests (optional)

TOEFL Requirement

A command of the English language is necessary for all students to be successfully enrolled at James Madison University. Since English is the language of instruction for all classes and all written papers must be submitted in English, applicants whose first or native language is not English must demonstrate their proficiency in English by providing a current copy of their TOEFL examination results or first completing the English Transition Program (no TOEFL score required). The TOEFL scores must be sent directly from Educational Testing Services to the Office of Admissions. A score of 570 or better is desired for most degree programs.
