(F.A.Q.) Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What does ISLC stand for?

A:  International Student Leadership Conference

Q:  Who can attend the conference/ISLC?

A:  ISLC participants are students from the United States and other countries who are currently studying in a US higher education institution. Other individuals can attend but we will NOT be able to provide assistance with:

(1) securing visas for individuals who are outside of the United States

(2) transportation to reach the conference site(s)

Q:  What have previous ISLC attendees said about the conference?

A: "Continue to do what you are doing!" "I had an awesome time!" "I loved it!" These are a few of the comments we heard from last year's participants. They also indicated that the thing they enjoyed the most about the conference was the opportunity to interact and meet a diversity of individuals from all around the world. The majority of participants indicated that they would attend next year's conference, and the remainder either said they were graduating or that they would opt to give up their seat for someone else from their association to attend next year.  Ibrahim Dabo  from BCC has written this article: and Hilda Mwang from Towson University has written this article.

Q:  How much does it cost to attend the conference?

A:  The early registration fee is $35 per person, which includes all meals and activities, but not housing.  Early registrations must be received by March 7, 2008.  The registration fee will then increase to $50 per person. Registration for the conference and hotel reservations will not be accepted/processed after March 19..

Q:  What is the policy in regards to the number of students who can stay in one room?

A:  JMU is again subsidizing room costs by offering hotel rooms for one night only at $35/room, and $55/room for the second night.  These rooms will accommodate 4 students; we cannot offer the special rate for 2 or 3 students if the school is bringing additional students of the same gender.  (If you have eight female students, we can only offer 2 rooms at $35/room.  If you choose to put fewer than four students in a room, you will pay the $55 fee.  If, however, you only have 2 female students from your school, you can take advantage of the reduced rate for those students).  In addition, the special rate is available for a single room for each faculty advisor accompanying students.  Any questions about this policy should be addressed to Delo Blough or by calling 540-568-6336.

Q:  Is it important to attend Friday night?

A:  YES!!  The activities for Friday evening are designed to promote interaction between all students.  These activities are normally energetic and loaded with fun!!

Q:  Where should I go to when I arrive in Harrisonburg, VA?

A:  You can check in at the Best Western Hotel after 3 p.m.  Then you can proceed to James Madison University to check in at registration between 6 – 8 p.m.

Q:  How do I check in to the Best Western Hotel?

A:  The Best Western Hotel is looking forward to your arrival.  They have a list of colleges/universities attending the ISLC and the registered number of rooms for your school.  Just let them know your school name!

Q:  Will we be billed for the Hotel rooms?

A:  No.  You have already paid for your rooms when ISLC received your registration information.  The only thing you might be charged with is damage to the rooms, long distance phone calls, and any movies purchased.   Tips for the cleaning staff are also not included in the registration/housing fee.
