Fulbright New Century Scholars Program

Thirty top academics and professionals collaborate for a year on a topic of global significance. For the current year, the research theme is "Toward Equality: The Global Empowerment of Women."

Program Overview

In March 2001, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, announced the launching of the Fulbright New Century Scholars Program (NCS), one of three new initiatives designed to build on the strengths of the Fulbright Scholar Program by extending its mission and outreach.

The New Century Scholars Program (NCS) will play a vital role in forging new links among scholars and professionals from around the world who will work together to seek solutions to issues and concerns that affect all humankind.

Each year 25-30 outstanding research scholars and professionals from the U.S. and abroad will be selected as NCS Fellows through an open competition. Under the leadership of an appointed Distinguished Scholar Leader, NCS Fellows engage in multidisciplinary collaboration of the highest quality on a topic of global significance and universal concern.

Fulbright Alumni Initiatives Awards Program

The objective of the AIA program is to help translate the individual Fulbright experience into long-term institutional impact.

To this end, the program provides small institutional grants to Fulbright alumni to develop innovative projects that will foster institutionally supported linkages and sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships between the Fulbright scholar's home and host institutions.

Overview

The Department of State in partnership with the Institute of International Education (IIE) and its affiliate, the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), has established the Alumni Initiatives Awards (AIA) as an institutional grant program. Now in its fourth year, the AIA program is intended to help translate the individual Fulbright experience into a long-term institutional impact.

The AIA application process is a joint one involving both the eligible Fulbright Scholar Alum and his/her host institution partner.

The Department of State, IIE, and CIES are partners in the management of the core Fulbright Scholar Program for Faculty and Professionals .

Please submit signed original AIA application and five copies to:

Fulbright International Education Administrators Program

U.S international education administrators are invited to apply for two- to three-week summer seminars in Germany, Japan or Korea. The seminars are designed to introduce participants to the society, culture and higher education systems of these countries through campus visits, meetings with foreign colleagues and government officials, attendance at cultural events and briefings on education.

Participants in the International Education Administrators Program gain a firsthand look into the host country's academic infrastructure and culture. They gain new perspective on the need to internationalize U.S. campuses and insight into how it can be done. For more information contact:
