Hunter Swanson


Exchange Visitor Coordinator

Hunter Swanson joined the OIP in August of 2012.  Hunter is a native of the Shenandoah Valley and is happy to return to the area.  Hunter attended Longwood University where he earned his B.A. degree in History in 2008 and participated in the Slovakia Scholars program.  After graduation, Hunter worked in the Office of International Affairs at Longwood University for 4 years. While working, Hunter earned an M.S. degree in Community and College Counseling, also from Longwood University, graduating in the spring of 2012.

At JMU, Hunter is responsible for maintaining JMU’s exchange visitor program and for providing immigration advising to students, research scholars and professors. Hunter also coordinates programming opportunities for international students including the Leaders in International Friendship Exchange (LIFE) program and International Student Career Day.  Hunter is active in the Harrisonburg and JMU community, serving on the Harrisonburg International Festival Planning Committee and as the Advisor to the Eta Kappa Chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity.  Hunter is a member of NAFSA and is currently the Vice President of Virginia International Educators.
