Documenting the diversity of ways humans live and have lived throughout the world is at the core of an Anthropology degree. Thus, what better way to explore this than through a study abroad program?

By travel and exposure to other cultures and systems, study abroad facilitates the development of cross-cultural communication, cultural sensitivity, and critical analyses of cross-cultural differences. These international education experiences give the students opportunities to put into practice the empirical skills that they have developed through their JMU coursework.

Likewise, global opportunities increase professional opportunities available to individuals with international experiences. Anthropology students have found direct connections to the field in many of our study abroad opportunities and have participated in any number of programs, including the following.

See the list of recommended study abroad programs below.  Please be aware that for any external or exchange study abroad programs listed, students will need to check with their academic department to see if courses taken while abroad will transfer and fulfill needed requirements.
