JMU Summer in Morocco:
Arabic Immersion and Cross-Cultural Perspectives

Program Location
Agadir is one of Morocco's most beautiful cities. Agadir is Morocco's most modern city and the number one tourist centre. Agadir may be too modern and not look like a typical Moroccan city, but in a country full of exotic flavor Agadir is a pleasant place where you can learn Arabic as well as enjoy the comforts and services of a Western-style city.

Academic Program
The Morocco Arabic and Cross-Cultural perspectives program is an immersion program intended to further the students’ knowledge of Arabic. Moreover the program will also present a broad view of the socio-religious and socio-political issues that are shaping the Islamic world of today, thus giving students a framework for understanding the relationship between Islam and the West.
Tentative course offerings:
Arabic 212: Intensive Intermediate Arabic, 6 credits
Arabic 300: Intensive Advanced Arabic, 6 credits
FL 490: Advanced Arabic Conversation, 6 credits
FL 490:
Islamic Civilization: Introduction and presentation on Islam - West Intellectual Encounters, 3 credits
Students will take a total of 9 credits.
Accommodations
Students will reside in hotels in Agadir, Morocco. Group meals will be provided.

In addition to the Short-term Application, interested students should submit an essay
indicating the reasons for choosing this program and how the choice of courses, program structure, city or country relates to your past, present and future academic, career and personal goals: How do you think you will benefit from the experience? A personal interview will also be required. Applicants must meet course prerequisites of Arabic 101 and 102 for Arabic 212 and Arabic 231 and 232 for Arabic 300.
