JMU Summer in Martinique

Summer 2012: May 11 to June 8 (tentative dates)
Academic Program
Martinique is one of the lesser Antilles, located in the West Indies, between Dominique and Sainte-Lucie.
The 2012 JMU Summer Program in Martinique is a four-week program offering students the opportunity to earn JMU French credits while living and studying on the island of Martinique. Students will take two courses (total of 6 credit hours) on the campus of Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG). Both courses will be taught by regular UAG professors. There will be numerous activities such as concerts, theatrical and dance productions, museum visits, sea outings, and island exploration.
Instructional methods include lectures, guided tours,
journal assignments and/or papers, tests and exams.
Tentative course offerings:
- * FR 446 — French Caribbean Literature (3)
- **FR 447 — French West Indian Civilization (3)
*Should fulfill Cluster TWO in Human questions and Contexts
**Should fulfill Cluster TWO in Literature
Prerequisite: FR300
Accommodations
Students will live in an air-conditioned hotel. There will be group meals hosted.

In addition to the Short-term Application, interested students should submit a faculty recommendation. Applicants must have a 2.8 minimum GPA. Course pre-requisite is FR 300.
