JMU Summer in Malta:
Health and Human Services

Program Location

Malta is a beautiful small island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is the largest island in the Maltese archipelago.  The island is heavily populated, very European and offers many beautiful archaeological and historic sites, as well as a colorful cultural experience and all beach and water sports.

Academic Program

Malta provides an exciting opportunity for health sciences students to study with esteemed health care professionals educated in Malta and the UK.  Students will have an opportunity to interact with and work with professionals in their specific discipline.  Malta’s health care system offers universal health care, and a careful analysis of their system and that of the US will enhance student learning.  A research project is included as part of the experience.

Instructional methods include lectures, guided tours, field work and journal assignment and/or papers.

Tentative course offerings:
HHS 440 Interdisciplinary Studies in Malta, 4 credits
ISAT 280 Cultural Experiences in Malta, 1 credit

Accommodations

Students will be housed in hotels in Malta. Some group meals will be included.
