Performances & Activities
The
Contemporary Theatre and Dance London Institute will expose the
student to the rich performance scene of this truly international
city. Each participant will experience “total artistic immersion”
in London. Over the four weeks, students will see more than
10 performances by internationally-acclaimed companies and emerging
artists, including events at London's world famous theatres as well
as site-specific works in alternative spaces. Students will
take as many as 16 classes in dance/theatre training techniques,
taught by JMU and institute faculty members, and an array of London-based
professionals. Institute participants will meet together each
week for a master class in an area of shared interest, such as improvisation,
yoga and Alexander technique. Program outings will include
visits to the Globe Theatre, the Theatre Museum, the Laban Centre,
the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery, Greenwich
and other important cultural and artistic sites. Several social
events will be scheduled, including an orientation dinner, a party
hosted by the directors at the faculty flat, a picnic in a London
park and a formal high tea to conclude the term.
