Academic Program
The academic program is the heart of the London Institute, but exploring and learning London is its soul. In addition to the Cinema and Media curriculum, students will participate in regular, weekly excursions, and cultural outings designed to enrich their perspectives and enhance their London experience.
Course offerings for British Cinema and Media London Institute:
- SMAD 463 - Film Adaptations
- Study the process of adapting literature into feature film and television. Consider the original literary work, as well as to changes made adapting it to a new medium. Focus on theatrical motion pictures, films for television, and episodic television. Field trips to places like the BBC, motion picture studios, National Film Theatre. Screenings & guest lectures.
- GHUM251/SMAD 305 - British Media And Society (GHUM 251 is available for Honors credit.)
- Study the history, nature, and impact of mass media in the United Kingdom. Emphasis on the impact modern media has on society, and society has on media. Consider similarities and differences in mass media in the United States and Great Britain. Consider the relationship between mass media and the arts. Focus on 20th century mass media in London. Field trips to media centers and organizations.
