The listings below are examples of internships that past EUPS participants have undertaken as part of their summer curriculum. Please note that no internship opportunity can be guaranteed, as these placements depend on the skills of the students and the needs of the organizations.
The Florence Newspaper (www.florencenewspaper.it)
This online (soon to be also on paper) newspaper informs the English-speaking foreign public about cultural events going on in Florence and Tuscany. In particular, EUPS students founded and are helping to run the EU and Florence section, which publishes EU news of interest to foreign residents.
The Florentine (www.theflorentine.net)
This is the most widely read English-language magazine in Florence. EUPS students investigate and write articles, document events, and gather interviews and news about EU-relevant themes that also have a local focus.
Europe Direct, City of Florence Administration
This European Commission-funded office located in Palazzo Vecchio promotes the communication between EU institutions and the Italian public. Students have been in charge of preparing and carrying out the "Learning Europe Project," which allows the Master's students to teach the European Union's History, Institutions and Policies in English in Italian high schools. The second project is "Antenna Europa," with our students researching and talking on the radio about EU-wide events of local interest.
UNESCO, Firenze Chapter
This office seeks to preserve European artistic heritage and to promote cultural exchange among young people worldwide. In 2009, EUPS interns at UNESCO took steps toward setting up a UNESCO club at JMU Harrisonburg and laid the groundwork for a UNESCO Conference to take place in Romania.
CNA (Confederazione Nazionale Artigianato) National Artisans Confederation
This is the widest national organization of small and medium enterprises in the important sector of artisanship. EUPS students have done research on U.S. and Middle Eastern trade regulations and tariffs affecting Italian/EU firms exporting to the United States and other relevant markets for Italian artistic and artisanal products.
Soccorso Clown Ospedale Meyer (Hospital Clowns, Meyer Children’s Hospital)
Meyer is the leading children’s hospital in Italy. EUPS students have helped the Hospital Clown Troupe to raise funds among the American community in Italy (a lot of foreign children and notably American ones are cured here, too) and organized events in Florence and Tuscany to increase awareness and help children and their families.
Fair Trade Office, City of Florence Administration
This office of the Comune di Firenze has launched a big project about the preservation of water as a publicly owned resource. Our students will be working with this project, researching European experiences in the field of the preservation of public water resources and the promotion of the awareness of the importance of public ownership of water resources worldwide.
Niels Stensen Institute, Florence
This leading Italian cultural foundation organizes festivals, conferences and events promoting cross-cultural communication and understanding. EUPS students have helped to organize the International Film Festival of Poggibonsi and a large conference/event within this 2009’s national celebrations of Galileo Galilei.
Gruppo Cadini, Florence
At this Italian fashion conglomerate, our students have worked at projects involving research in the fields of marketing and export markets analysis. They have also participated in the preparation of the largest Italian fashion show, Pitti Moda.
Openup Consulting
Openup Consulting, a business consulting firm, advises institutions such as the city government of Florence, the Region of Tuscany, and various import-export firms on how to promote Tuscany and its products in the world, especially in the United States, Russia and the central Asian region. Students have worked on specific projects in this field, such as opening a virtual office in NYC or designing the Web pages, as well as preparing brochures and strategies for promotional events in the United States.

This NGO dates back to the mutual assistance tradition of Renaissance Italy. ANPAS brings together volunteers in the welfare and medical assistance sector and is also in charge of international adoptions for the region of Tuscany. It is one of the leading NGOs in Tuscany and in all of Italy. Depending on their foreign language proficiency, students work on projects related to the evolving national and EU legislation in this field, as well as in the area of international adoptions.
UCODEP (Unità e Cooperazione per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli)
Working in the field of international cooperation and immigration, this NGO promotes peace and economic development in developing countries. UCODEP works with immigrants from the Southern half of the world, notably Africa, and is active in the areas of integration of migrants, education, language training, etc. Students are assigned specific projects depending on their interests and the needs of the association.
